Overview
Travel Diary is a personal journey app developed by AppFellows. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and with whom it may be shared.
Data stored on your device
All data you create in Travel Diary — locations, collections, GPS routes, photos, videos, audio recordings and notes — is stored locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit or store this data on our servers unless you explicitly use the optional website sync feature.
Location data
Travel Diary requests access to your device’s location for the following purposes:
- Detecting your current position when saving a new location
- Recording GPS routes in the background during an active recording session
- Showing your position on the in-app map
Location data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to AppFellows or any third party, except as described below under Third-party services.
Background location access is only used during an active GPS recording session. You can stop the recording at any time from within the app.
Camera, microphone and photos
Travel Diary may request access to your camera, microphone and photo library to allow you to attach photos, videos and audio recordings to your journal entries. This media is stored locally on your device and is not uploaded to any server.
Speech recognition
Travel Diary uses on-device speech recognition to allow you to save locations and search by voice. On iOS, this uses Apple’s speech recognition framework. Audio is processed locally and is not stored or transmitted by AppFellows.
Third-party services
Travel Diary uses the following third-party services. These services may receive limited data such as your approximate location or search queries in order to function:
- OpenFreeMap — provides map tiles. No personal data is collected. openfreemap.org
- Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) — used for place name and point-of-interest search. Queries may include your approximate map location. nominatim.org
- Photon (Komoot) — used for address autocomplete. Queries may include your approximate map location. photon.komoot.io
- Open-Meteo — used for live weather data. Your location coordinates are sent to retrieve weather information when you tap Live Weather. open-meteo.com
- Open Elevation — used to retrieve the elevation at your current map position. Your approximate coordinates are sent. open-elevation.com
All of the above services are free, open services that do not require an account and do not track individual users.
Website sync (optional)
If you choose to use the website sync feature, your location data and collection data is transmitted to a server URL of your choosing. AppFellows does not operate or have access to this server. You are responsible for the privacy and security of your own sync server.
Backup and restore
The backup feature creates a local file on your device containing your journal data. This file is not uploaded to any server by the app. If you choose to share this file via a third-party service (such as iCloud, email or Google Drive), the privacy policy of that service applies.
Analytics and advertising
Travel Diary does not collect analytics data, does not show advertisements, and does not share any data with advertising networks or data brokers.
Children
Travel Diary is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
